Access by role
Who can open a course, who can edit it, and how to hide a section.
Who can open the course
- Its owner and its collaborators.
- Teachers and students of any group linked to it.
- Admins of the organization it belongs to.
- In a course opened from Moodle, everyone Moodle sends — with the role their context gives them.
Everyone else gets nothing: a course is invisible outside that list.
Who can edit
Owners, collaborators, group teachers, and organization admins edit the course: its structure, its documents, its whiteboards.
Students read it — except in the sections where you switch editing on.
Hiding a section
Right-click a section in the sidebar and choose Hide to students. It disappears from their sidebar entirely, along with everything under it — hiding a section hides its children.
Use it for material you are still writing, or for a chapter you release week by week. Show to students puts it back.
Closing a whole course
In an organization, a course's settings hold a Live checkbox. Uncheck it and students lose access to the course, while teachers keep working on it.
For a course opened from Moodle, availability is decided by the activity in Moodle. The checkbox is locked in DTeach, and so is the member list.
